Back in September of 2024, around 70 students turned up to the DCGS hall on a Sunday morning to audition for the 2025 DGCS Musical, Footloose. We began the day with singing and learning choreography for the musical’s titular song, ‘Footloose’. Following several rounds of callbacks, two weeks later the anticipated cast list was released. With scripts handed out and Miss Jones' extensive Google Drive of backing tracks and sheet music set out, preparations were ready for the first rehearsals after the October half term.
In producing a musical, there are many different elements which need to be put together for there to be success. The cast were busy being taught the music, blocking and choreography. In a show with around 20 musical numbers, plenty of work was required over a four-month-period, with a lot of coordination from the cast. The art of bringing together singing, dancing and acting for the show is only possible through the cast and director’s devotion to the musical.
Behind the scenes, the tech and creative teams had the huge job of preparing the lights, sound, costume and set for the show. With an endless number of tasks to do, such as cueing tracks and sound effects, setting the lights and reciting andsnd refining costumes, total unity was needed.
We are now at the imminent run up to the show, when the final lines are being learnt, dances refined, and harmonies perfected. The company has been working hard to transform the stage into the bustling world of Footloose and Bomont High School. The show runs from Wednesday 26 to Saturday 29 March, book your ticket now!
