A fantastic exhibition of research completed by students in Year 13 was held in the hall last week. This was the first year that Year 13 students undertook the Extended Project which is a new qualification assessed at A level standard. It is gaining credence at universities as a qualification that demonstrates the independent research, presentation and evaluation skills that undergraduates require.
All students were allowed to explore a topic entirely of their own choosing. One element of the assessment is a presentation of the student’s findings. Forty five Year 13 students have completed the course and the Exhibition was a genuine highlight of the term. Hearing the students talk expertly about a topic that they have become personally, fully involved in, was a privilege for the staff and parents who attended. Fantastic research on topics as diverse as epilepsy, The Alhambra, The Samaritans and High Speed 2 was on display.
The students acquitted themselves admirably and have gained new skills and habits that will help them with the transition to university.
