On Saturday 5th December, our Junior Team travelled to Newquay in Cornwall for the English Schools’ Cross Country Finals. After qualifying for these finals by winning the County and Regional rounds, the team had been training hard under the management of Mr D’Arcy & Mr Bristow.

Torrential overnight rain and a near gale-force wind combined to make the exposed and undulating 3000m course a challenge for all 140 competitors. James McCarthy ran an outstanding race to finish in silver medal position, just a few metres behind the race winner. Joe Cochrane also ran superbly to finish 15th. Andrew Stenning was our third placed runner in 26th place, followed by Joe Aherne (45th), Toby Wilson (88th) and Luke Naylor (98th).

When the team scores were announced, Challoner’s had won by just 5 points, and secured our first ever National Cross Country title. Well done to Mr D’Arcy & Mr Bristow as Team Managers, and more importantly to the six boys themselves, who can be so proud of this incredible achievement.
