On Tuesday 6th October, Graphics students had the opportunity of meeting and learning from Tom Keeling, an ex- student and former Head Boy of DCGS.
Tom is now working as the lead designer in the sponsorship department of Manchester United Football Club. The students were given an intriguing presentation about how he came to be in such a fortunate design position and how his career has developed since he left school.Tom explained how important it was to gain experience whenever possible and advised students on new technology. Following this, the students completed a design and branding exercise, interacting with Tom who gladly shared his professional expertise. He was very impressed by some of the concepts they had achieved in the time given.
We are delighted that Tom came in to help develop our students' understanding of the professional design industry and that he also found time to speak to the 6th form PE students, giving an insight into sponsorship and media. It is professionals like Tom, who are generous with their time and energy, that really helps students gain a realistic understanding of an industry.
