Last Thursday, students from both DCGS and DCHS took part in our annual autumn concert at DCHS. This particular concert consists of a huge variety of groups, all playing (or singing) pieces across a whole variety of musical genres.
The evening got off to a great start, with the Wind Band from DCHS performing Badlet's Theme from the Pirates of the Caribbean. Soon to follow were Junior Choir. This ensemble is a group of approximately 30 boys in Years 7 to 9 from DCGS. They impressed the audience with a brilliant rendition of What a Wonderful World, earning a well-deserved roaring round of applause.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, one of the highlights of the evening was the DCGS Jazz Band. Conducted by Head of Music Mr Tansley, they played Big Cat Groove, 'Big Noise' from Winnetka and Respect; all to an incredible standard with one audience member describing them as 'superb'. Last, but by no means least, were Swing Band. Swing Band is a group of more than 80 musicians from both DCGS and DCHS. Playing old favourites such as Mambo No. 5, Sway and The Girl from Ipanema, they finished the concert brilliantly.
On behalf of everyone involved, many thanks to all the members of staff that have given up their own time to help produce such a fabulous evening.
