60 Sixth Formers visited the library facilities at Brunel University this week to develop their research skills and get to grips with a University Library for their Extended Project.
The Extended Project Qualification is a new addition to our Sixth Form curriculum this year and students have chosen to pursue projects on topics as diverse as the effects of decolonisation on South Africa and Zimbabwe, refugee camps in Palestine and the Islamic revolution. The research and presentation has to be completed independently and in a fully academic manner. Each student has a supervisor drawn from the school staff to monitor and guide them through their project but the impetus and initiative has to come from the students. Early signs are that this is providing a highly stimulating and interesting new element to the curriculum. We are looking forward to seeing the wide range of impressive work the students will no doubt produce next term.
The time spent at Brunel covered successful academic internet research, Harvard referencing and an opportunity to find valuable research materials in the University library.Brunel have kindly agreed to allow students doing the Extended Project access to their library resources throughout the summer break.
