This spring, the DCGS Concert embraced the classic ‘Film and Television’ theme. This concert consisted of movie-themed pieces from a wide variety of sources, and performed by huge array of the school’s musicians: Brass Ensemble, Junior Choir, Sax Quartet, String Orchestra, Jazz Band, Chamber Choir, String Quartet, Jazz Workshop and the Orchestra.
Pieces included the James Bond theme by Brass Ensemble and E.T. Flying Home by the Orchestra. Jazz Band also played the theme tune to Police Squad, with Mr Tansley joking that he would crash into a bin as he walked on stage to conduct − although I think those of us still at school are a bit too young to know the reference!
A special highlight of the evening was when Dr Fenton made a guest appearance singing alongside the Chamber Choir performing Begin the Beguine and The Lord is my Shepherd. In the Orchestra, there were some excellent soloists, we surprised and delighted to see Miss Kremer playing the bassoon.
The evening was thoroughly appreciated by all. During the week, students were treated to renditions of Schubert’s Death and the Maiden and the Cantina Band music from Star Wars − and we hope you enjoy our recording of the evening.
